I am going to be bold here…Biking Wellness is a MOVEMENT. This is why I am starting the Biking Wellness podcast.
As a woman who struggled with her body image, her weight, weight loss, and exercise for decades, and finally figured out how to get the results I wanted?
I know I am not alone.
I know that women around the world are waking up every day, looking in the mirror, and tearing themselves apart. They are trying on clothes and wondering why they don’t fit, wondering how they managed to gain weight again, and wondering why on earth they can’t manage to find a workout routine they can stick with to solve this problem of being bigger than they want to be.
Women who ride bikes are comparing themselves with OTHER women who ride and are wondering why they aren’t as fast, aren’t as strong, and look so darn silly riding a bike.
At least I know that I did this for YEARS.
And, if YOU have ever done this too? My friend, you are in the right place.
Every episode of the biking wellness podcast is designed to give you simple, actionable steps to help you figure out how to make positive changes through biking by focusing on what your body can DO, not what it looks like.
Sounds pretty awesome, doesn’t it?! Read on to learn YOU can expect every single week from the biking wellness podcast.
We are going to talk about how awesome it is to ride a bike, and learn how to HAVE FUN moving our bodies again!
Do you remember when you were a kid, and you moved just because it felt GOOD to move?
When you played tag with your friends? When you played sports just for the literal sport of it, not because it might help you lose weight?
And rode bikes all around the neighborhood from one house to another…taking every opportunity to fly down the hills on your one speed huffy with your feet off the pedals yelling WHEEEE???
THAT is what moving your body and riding your bike SHOULD feel like. If it feels like work all of the time and sucks? You are absolutely doing it wrong.
When you FIND THE FUN in moving your body you are so much more likely to do it, do it regularly, and be consistent. Biking wellness is all about making moving our bodies FUN again.
We are going to talk about what wellness REALLY means (hint…it has NOTHING to do with the scale).
Here’s the deal. If you follow this podcast, and listen, and implement the parts of what I teach that make sense for you? You absolutely WILL lose weight riding your bike. I know you want that! And please do let me be the first to tell you if you haven’t heard it yet that there is nothing wrong with wanting to lose weight riding your bike.
You can appreciate your body AND want to change it at the same time!
The thing is, though, losing weight can’t be the only reason why you ride, or even the primary focus. You know why? Because that is NOT going to be a good enough reason to a) get on your bike when you don’t feel like it OR b) not dive face first into the pantry after a long, hard day when you feel like you DESERVE something good.
Biking wellness means feeling good. Feeling strong. Getting up those hills or getting that PR on the peloton. Having the ENERGY to do all of the things in your life that you want to do and not feeling so darn tired all of the time.
We are going to talk about how diets suck, how they don’t work, and how to ACTUALLY lose weight for the last time.
In other words, we aren’t going to just talk about what works, we are going to talk about what doesn’t.
The reality is that we have all been sold a bill of goods by the diet industry (anyone else remember that fat free chemical butter SPRAY?). Every diet tells us that if we just follow their plain, and their rules, we will lose weight.
And here’s the thing. If you start a diet? You actually might lose weight. In fact, you probably will! They are DESIGNED to get you results fast.
BUT what the diet industry doesn’t teach you is that real, sustainable weight loss takes time. They just try to get you quick results so that you keep buying their food or paying their membership fee.
But here’s the deal. At the end of the day, if you lose weight and gain it back? Which, let’s face it, if you are here listening to ME that is probably the case?
Then that diet DID NOT WORK.
All it did was teach you how to follow someone else’s formula without paying attention to your body and what works for you. Without thinking about what you like and want to eat! Without considering the foods that both feel good AND taste good in your body.
In Biking Wellness we talk all about how to use our own brains to make our own plan for our own wellness. A plan that we are able and willing to do long term…because temporary change only gets us temporary results.
I am going to tell you A LOT of stories.
My friend, I have a story for just about everything. A story about how I got hit by a truck on my bike when I was ten. A story about my husband buying me a bike for our anniversary that I was terrified I would never end up riding.
Stories about being at gatherings with food and being afraid to put too much on my plate in fear of thinking that everyone was looking at me and thinking “the fat girl shouldn’t be eating all that.”
A story about how a little boy made fun of my big thighs spread across the seat on the bus in kindergarten.
Stories about how when my husband traveled for work I would put my son to bed and just stand in front of the pantry just grabbing food and eating it from the box or the bag because I was lonely, exhausted, and there was no one to witness me binging.
I will be telling you ALL of the stories so that you can have a little laugh, be entertained, and realize that YOU are not alone. I am telling you that if you have done it? I probably have too.
And, if I was able to figure out how to lose my weight for the last time and keep it off for good? The girl who loves chocolate and doritos almost as much as she loves red wine?
Then you absolutely, 100%, can do this too. You just need to learn from someone who has gone through all of this before you, and has come out on the other side.
You see, I still screw up, regularly. EVERYONE who has ever lost weight and gotten the results STILL screws up.
But the difference is I don’t give up. I know that one meal a week (that’s 1 of 21 meals for those of you who DO want to math!) is not going to derail all of the progress I have made.
And, each week I will be giving YOU tips on how you can keep going even when you screw up too. Because as of today, as of this minute, right now, listening right here? YOU aren’t giving up either.
A Final Note
I have been thinking about, and ruminating over, creating this podcast literally for years. In fact, January 2022 was the first time I reached out to the Biking Wellness community and said “I am thinking about starting a Podcast!”
I have been playing around with the title, with the ideas, with the cover art…with EVERYTHING for MONTHS because I wanted to get it all just right.
And, you know what? It’s never going to be just right. It’s never going to be perfect.
In the end I decided to get it out there, get it in your hands, and hit record, so that YOU can press play.
Because, at the end of the day, I don’t want you to suffer anymore. I don’t want you to beat yourself or your body up anymore. I need to get all of this into your earbuds…like YESTERDAY so that YOU can get started with losing your weight today.
And if YOU are out there waiting for the right time, the perfect conditions, to get started?
I promise you, just like with the launching of this podcast, it’s NEVER going to come.
There is never going to be the perfect time, where you are perfectly motivated, where you can do all the bike rides and eat all the right things all at once.
Instead, you are going to start by making one, small doable change at a time. Like how I started by having two cookies with my afternoon tea instead of three!
I think it’s time for BOTH OF US to start. Don’t you? Let’s start together, today. Go ahead, give Biking Wellness a listen, and let me know what you think!
Ride on!
xoxo
Stacy
